One of my absolute favourite places to go as a child, as an adult and as a family. The castle ruins are steeped in history and are wonderful to explore. There is a bridge to cross the old moat that's around the castle ruins still to this day. The moat is now empty but you can see the walls and walkways that cross the moat and follow in my family footsteps and enjoy rolling down the banking's of the moat or lazing on the embankments in the sun. Make sure to cross the stepping stones during low tide and explore the walks on the opposite side of the river. Try not to fall in as I have so often done in the years gone by. My family and I often paddle in the water here and when the tide is low you can walk from one side of the river to the other if you want to get a little bit wet. It's fun to sit here and watch the horses from the local riding school run through the water to the opposite side of the river when they are turned out or heading out with riders on their backs. (sometimes people fall off, it's a fun past-time to guess which nervous rider will fall - a little dark but fun). There are no facilities on this site, but there is a pub located at the entrance called the Pelican - They offer food and drinks. Or along the main road there is th Old mill, cobbled kitchen, or my favourite The Village Farm Cafe - located near Ewenny Pottery.

Visit the amazing castle ruins and immerse yourself in Welsh culture and history. Cross the stepping stones if you dare - try not to fall in (I have many times lol) Beautiful country and costal walks nearby. Then pop off to the pelican for a pint or dolly’s tea room for a cuppa and cake!

Lovely old castle overlooking the stepping stones on the river. 5 minutes drive from home.

Ogmore Castle is a Grade I listed castle ruin located near the village of Ogmore-by-Sea, south of the town of Bridgend in Glamorgan, South Wales. Its free to get in and children love to run around and pla hide-and-seek there . There are stepping stones next to the castle which allow you to walk accross to a secret 'swinnging bridge ' which if you run accross and jump will swing back and forth !

A scenic walk from the flat are the Grade 1 listed historic Ogmore Castle ruins. They are in a beautiful peaceful setting with grassy areas ideal for families. Have fun jumping the stepping stones to cross the beautiful clean water and wonderful walk to the thatched cottages in the Merthyr Mawr Estate.
