Beaches
The flat overlooks Hardy’s Bay beach and is accessed by a gate opposite. It’s wonderful for a walk, swim or explore all year round. It’s also perfect for those with young families and/or those who like to be close in access to the beach - easy to come and go to the flat for anything you need. The beaches are also very popular for surfing, paddle boarding and kitesurfing.
As soon as through the gate you are on the coastal path too and a scenic walk away are numerous other beaches for example Merthyr Mawr estuary or Southerndown. Beaches are predominantly half-pebble, half-sand beach with nicely secluded warm areas to set-up for the day and enjoy the sun. At low tide there are rock pools for the children to explore and fossils to explore. Young children enjoy the warmth of the rockpools and have great fun with a fishing net. Dunraven Castle ruins a 20 minute walk away with its secret walled garden or walk along the coastal path further and enjoy the scenery.

Experience walking behind the magical curtain of this waterfall. Good shoes and basic agility to get around and down the rocks needed but worth it.

All were carefully deconstructed at their original location before being rebuilt on the museum’s 100-acre site, and furnished accordingly. There’s a Victorian school, a chapel, a toll booth, a miners’ institute as well as the Rhyd-y-Car mining cottages, each showing a different era. The museum stands in the grounds of St Fagans Castle and gardens, a late 16th-century manor house.
