An easy walk from Liberty Street. Downing park was designed in the late 19th century by Frederick Law Olmstead and Calvert Vaux, and named for their mentor Andrew Jackson Downing. Take a gentle walk around the pond to watch the ducks and swans. Or, climb the hill for a wonderful view of hte bend in the Hudson River.

Downing Park was designed in the late 19th century by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, who gave the design to the city on the condition it would be named after their mentor, Andrew Jackson Downing, a Newburgh native who died in a steamboat accident on the Hudson River in 1852. Frederick Law Olmsted was also the designer of Central Park in New York City.

Designed by Olmsted and Vaux, who did Central and Prospect park in NYC, as a tribute to their teacher Andrew Downing, a Newburgh native. 30 acres of beautiful landscape and some nice views at the top.
