Address: Paseo de Marti y Avda del Puerto, Habana Vieja. Description: La Punta was designed by the Italian military engineer Bautista Antonelli and built between 1589 and 1600. It underwent comprehensive repairs after the British shelled it during their successful 1762 Havana raid. During the colonial era a chain was stretched 250m to the castle of El Morro every night to close the harbor mouth to shipping. The castle's museum is really just a few information boards chronicling its history but there are good views from the battlements where you can also admire the huge Parrott cannons dating from the mid-19th century.

Given its strategic location on one side of the harbor mouth, this fortress was one of the two most important defensive constructions in Havana’s defense system in colonial times. Construction works took place from 1590 to 1630, approximately. Along with Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro and Castillo de la Real Fuerza, it is one of the three fortresses that appear on coat of arms of the Havana.

El Castillo de San Salvador de La Punta se alza sobre el Puerto de La Habana, formando parte del sistema defensivo formado por las cuatro fortalezas que defienden la Bahía de La Habana. Fue diseñado por el ingeniero militar italiano Giovanni Bautista Antonelli y fue construido entre los años 1589 y 1600.
