Reputed to be the burial place of the mythical Queen Maebh and has a huge megalithic burial mound on the summit of the mountain. Lovely views and not a very difficult walk up.

The walk to the summit of the mountain takes an average of 40 – 45 minutes and it suitable for all ages. Once you reach the top, there lies the cairn of Queen Maeve of Connacht.

Knocknarae mountain has a beautiful boardwalk which can be accessed from opposite the Rugby club carpark in Strandhill. The top of the mountain provides panoramic views of Sligo. The Cairn of Queen Maeve is also located at the top of the mountain.
