Very good home-cooked Mexican food. Guisados, green enchiladas, agua fresca, flan. Reasonable prices. Long walk or take a taxi from el centro.

This restaurant is literally a hop-skip and jump from here. Although small (4 tables on the patio, 6 or 8 inside) and off the beaten path, it has a VERY good reputation, and is one of my favorite restaurants in San Miguel. A charming place with a friendly and welcoming staff. Their fajita tacos are about the best I’ve ever had. To get here, turn right out the gate, and then take the very next street on the left (Calle Clavel - it looks almost like an ally), then go right on Refugio, which is the next street up.
