A beautiful walk through the narrow lanes of old town Aljezur lead to the moorish castle ruins on top of the hill, with stunning views over the town and natural park behind. A place to dream about long forgotten times.

Aljezur means "Harbour" in ancient arabic. The original moorish castle oversaw an important liaison between ocean and land routes on the SW of the peninsula. Want to find out more?

If you're into history and local charm, slender through the cobblestoned streets of the old town of Aljezur and walk up to the castle. Sometimes small groups gather here in the evening for poetry readings, singing, or a picnic. Great spot to watch the sunset from!
