Sterling Falls Gorge Natural Area is located in the Vermont Green Mountains near Stowe. It was carved by 10,000 years of relentless work of rocks and sand carried by Sterling Brook, resulting in a spectacular gorge and a series of cascades, falls and pools. The gorge walls are from 11 to 50 feet high and are surrounded by dense hemlock forests, shrubs and ferns. Walls of the gorge are made even more beautiful by a cover of lush, green mosses. There is a scenic trail that follows the gorge and at times gets close to the gorge walls, showing thousands of years of geological history of the area through the layers of exposed rocks. The walk to the end of the trail and back takes about 45 minutes.

A beautifully maintained interpretive trail atop a Gorge. I bit hard to find, but worth the effort! Hike to the bottom of the trail and enjoy a snack by the river.

Lovely walk to water falls, ample trails to walk, bike, or ski on and one of my most favorite places in the world!

A beautiful walk that you can tailor -- a small or larger loop. Not a difficult climb, very gradual, almost just a woodsy walk. Beautiful views of the gorge in the early part of the hike.
