Tour the Great Stone Dwelling, the largest Shaker dwelling house ever constructed and home to the Museum. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the site is a vibrant cultural, community and educational center.
The Shaker Museum is on Mascoma Lake and offers a glimpse back to when the Shakers were a thriving community and the Great Stone Dwelling was the tallest building north of Boston. Call for tour times and try the hiking trails on the other side of Route 4-A.
Nestled in a valley between Mt. Assurance & Mascoma Lake, in Enfield, NH, the Enfield Shaker site has been cherished for over 200 years. In the mid 19th century, the community was home to three “Families” of Shakers. They practiced equality of the sexes and races, celibacy, pacifism & communal ownership of property and farmed over 3,000 acres.
