A short hike down to the beach, it's never really that crowded, and gorgeous. We like to grab a sandwich from the Elk Store, and hang out for an afternoon.

The Beach in Elk. One if the most beautiful beaches in the state. A bit of a walk down to the beach, but worth it. Also, don't miss the museum in the old post office building (great mural and items of the old lumber town). And the great little walk out onto the headlands behind the museum.

A parking lot for the beach access is on Highway 1 across from the Elk Store. The visitor center and town museum is located 100 yards north. A well-graded trail leads from the parking area down to the driftwood-laden beach where Greenwood Creek pools at the base of Bonee Gulch. This is a picturesque spot to say the least. Gunderson Rock is a rock island that stands tall just offshore from the beach.
