An absolute must to walk this beach. This beach is excellent for surfing. You can hire everything you need to suft and also take lessons. It's extremely reasonable to hire everything you need. Talk to Elvis in the surf school. Lifeguard also operates on this beach at specific times of year.

Carrowniskey beach is located just a few kilometres past Louisburgh, and the 35 mins drive over is as beautiful as the beach itself with Croagh Patrick on your left and Clew Bay on your right. Two kilometres past Louisburgh, you make a sharp right and turn down to Carrowniskey Beach. Carrowniskey beach faces straight west which means it is one of the few locations on the entire coast of Ireland which picks up swell all year round so it’s ideal for surfing. It’s also a great beach to walk on.

Carrownisky & Killeen beaches are basically one vast beach, split down the middle by a river. These beaches are popular with surfers due to the great waves. Lifeguards patrol Carrownisky during the high season of June - August. You can find these beaches about 10 drive west on the R378 out of Louisburgh.

Popular surf beach, surfboard, and wetsuit rental are normally available. Contact Elvis at Surf Mayo for information. Nice beach but at high tide most to all of the sand can be covered.

West facing surf beach that also plays host to a horse racing event every year.
