Gear up for a peaceful walk. Once you reach your destination, sit, relax, ponder life, read through other's journal entries and write your own. This peaceful symbol of hope has been around for over thirty years. It was established by Frank Nesmith, a local legend, who sadly passed away in July 2020. Go! Make a memory!

It's the inspiration behind a Nicholas Sparks Novel and about 1.5 mile walk from the Sunset Beach Pier. The mailbox is full of the memories, stories, and inspirations from the lives of others.

Heather and I really love this spot. It is a simple concept where you may jot down your thoughts and wishes and leave them in this mailbox just off the beach. It is a place of quiet contemplation and peace. Nicholas Sparks based his novel, "Every Breath" on this. It's a nice, three mile hike from the Sunset Beach pier to there and back. A sweet little nature trail is out there, as well. This area at the end of Sunset is called Bird Island and is a natural preserve.

The Kindred Spirit Mailbox is a mailbox placed on Bird Island by someone who loved the natural beauty of the place. For the past 30 years, fellow beach lovers have made the 1.5 mile beach walk to to see the mailbox, sit on the nearby bench to reflect, or leave a message in the communal notebook for future visitors to contemplate.
