We are blessed in Westport to be so close to so many gorgeous beaches. As you drive towards Louisburgh you’ll pass a Blue Flag beach called Bertra which is perfect for a dip in the Atlantic Ocean. Once you’re in Louisburgh there’s another Blue Flag beach called Carrowmore where you get the best views of the sun setting. Carrowniskey Beach is best known for its waves and is a great place to do a spot of surfing. It’s also home to a bespoke coffee trailer called ‘The Atlantic Grind’, where you can get a great coffee and home-made treats. Both Keem Bay and Keel Strand are in Achill which boasts a few more fabulous beaches. It is well worth a day trip. This beach is hard to beat. Located on the north side of the mouth of Killary Harbour. It's about 90 minutes drive from Cong, but on a sunny day is well worth it. The car park at Silver Strand can become full during the summer, if so try White Strand just 10 back up the road which quite often gets overlooked (there is a small river to cross to get onto the beach at White strand but is very shallow by the car park).

Beaches do not come more remote and unspoilt than Silver Strand approx 25km on from Louisburgh. It has a glorious Atlantic views out towards Inishturk, Inishbofin and Clare Island and fine views on a typical landscape behind. Although off the beaten track it is popular with families and swimmers due to the shelter provided by the ecologically important sand dunes, but there is no lifeguard and the tide comes in across the expanse of silver sand very quickly.

This is one of the nicest beaches in Mayo. It is an ideal beach for swimming with clear blue water. Would definitely recommend! Unspoilt with fabulous views of Mweelrea, Clare Island.
