Our mission at Lawnwood is to educate our visitors about snakes in general, to bring understanding and promote the conservation of these commonly feared reptiles. Most people are aware that we get both venomous and non-venomous snakes, but have little knowledge on telling them apart. It makes the subject mysterious and encourages fear. We aim to bring a better understanding when dealing with snakes!

The Lawnwood Snake Sanctuary remains one of the top attractions in Plettenberg Bay for the whole family. Situated in The Crags, this sanctuary is home to more than 100 snakes that range from the vibrant-green boomslang to the inquisitive python, and everything in-between. Of course, these are in safe enclosures. But, if you’d like to feel the cool silkiness of their beautifully-marked skin, the tour includes snake interactions.
