This area has a little bit of everything - great scenic areas, waterfalls, hot springs, lakes, an obsidian flow, fishing, boating, hiking, skiing, snowmobiling, resorts for grabbing a quick bite to eat or snack & an informative visitors center. Check it out of you have a chance, make sure contact the visitors center or resorts for seasonal closures.

Newberry National Volcanic National Monument includes 54,000+ acres of lakes, lava flows, and spectacular geologic features in central Oregon. The highest point within the Monument is the summit Paulina Peak (7,985 ft.), showcasing views of the Cascades, Newberry Caldera and across the High Desert.

Where else are you going to see and feel some of the volcanic history of this area? Spell-binding views and hard to imagine how this area developed around such primal forces.

These photos are from the Little Crater Trail hike which is a 1.8 mi loop hike near Paulina Lake. The hike offers great views of the Paulina Lake, Obsidian Lava Flow and a peek of the East Lake. 459 ft. elevation gain.
