When this bridge was built in 1877, it was the highest railroad trestle in the world.

High Bridge is a railroad bridge crossing the Kentucky River Palisades. The original bridge was constructed in 1876 and was the first cantilever bridge in the US. At the time it held the record for the tallest railroad bridge in the world! It has been designated as a Nation Civil Engineering Landmark and is still used by the Norfolk Southern Railway. The park also includes a restored 19th century open air dance pavilion, picnic area and playground.

Once the highest railroad bridge in the world. Great photos from the park. The Shakers run a boat tour on the Dixie Bell, which departs not far from the bridge and also gives you some great views; nearby kayak rentals scenic paddle to Herrington Lake and dam.

Approx 25 minutes away from the cottage this high span railroad bridge dates back to right around the Civil War. Still used today - it's a must see for train buffs. While there be sure and drive down the road to see the lock just below the bridge.
