Spec's used to be a museum, and still is in a way. The walls are covered with San Francisco quirky history! The grumpy bartender will pour a fine ale, and if you ask for "cheese and crackers" he will cut you a nice wedge of Edam for your dining pleasure. Just don't play the piano without asking.

This is where the North Beach locals hang out. I've had many interesting conversations here with colorful patrons. Walking distance.

One of the most historic bars in all of San Francisco. Opened in 1968, Specs' has been home to a menagerie of misfits, from strippers and poets to longshoremen and merchant marines. It's a true dive.
