Chester is steeped in history, take an hours walk along the old roman walls (taking in the excavated amphitheatre as you do and enjoy shopping walking along the rows!! Walking into town is a very pleasant 10 minute walk, mostly along the canal. Stop for a drink or even a bite to eat at Harkers (mentioned above).
