The term Chautauqua (pronounced shuh-TAW-kwuh) is used to describe a vast area right at the foot of Boulder’s Flatirons mountains. It encompasses the sprawling lawn of Chautauqua Park, the Colorado Chautauqua historic district and the Chautauqua Trailhead, from which 40 miles of hiking trails can be accessed.
Chautauqua Park has miles and miles of trails as well as a great field for picnics, a playground for kids, and a dining hall.
Chautauqua Park is absolutely stunning and a must-see for anyone coming to Boulder. Whether you want just want to hang out and enjoy the view or hike up into the mountains, Chautauqua has it all.
Located in South Boulder. 15 minutes by car from us. Great Hiking options, from easy to difficult. great views from the city.
Lots of trails to choose from here. You can walk the meadow trails and look at the flat irons or go on a more strenuous adventure like the Royal Arch hike (4mi). You will have to pay to park and it can get pretty crowded. You might need traction for some of the hikes, be sure to check trail conditions.
