You can stop by the Hon-Dah Convenience Store on the way, and pick up an $8 fishing day-license. It's a beautiful drive with wild horses, cattle, etc. Pro tip - drive all the way around, past the campgrounds to find a quiet spot on the other side of the lake away from the campers.

Looking for fishing, camping, or just a great day trip? Hawley Lake is located on the Apache Reservation off 260. Turn off is 30 mins from our rental. In the summer it's great for picnics, fishing or even camping. Many forest roads around this area for a day drive in nature. Streams, meadows, wildlife, and gorgeous views. In the fall this drive is especially beautiful for the changing colors with pine, birch, oak, and aspen trees.

Other larger lakes that are further away on reservation but are massive and absolutely gorgeous are Hawley Lake, Horseshoe Cienega, and Big Lake. These are great fishing lakes to day trip and take a picnic to. Big Lake also has boat and kayak rentals. If fishing, make sure to pick up a permit on the way or online at wmaoutdoor.com.
