Built in 1921 by the engineer Giuseppe de Micheli. The Florentine nobleman obtained the communal land at a lower price than expected to facilitate the entrepreneur who had employed over four hundred workers, mostly local. The building, initially called Select Palace Hotel, was built in less than three hundred days under the guidance of engineer Goffredo Fantini and was inaugurated in 1922: “Select Palace Hotel. Opening July 1, 1922. Hotel of the highest order (200 rooms). Maximum comfort. Sea and pinewood rooms with hot and cold running water, WC, bathroom, long-distance telephone, excellent kitchen, fine wines, great terrace for tea and outdoor dance parties with superb views of the Apuan Alps. Dance halls. Music and concerts, tennis, billiards, garage, elevator, bus ”. In 1925 the structure was enlarged and raised by two floors from the Florentine Ugo Giovannozzi. The man also designs the hotel sign in the corner of the building. The bathing establishment in front of the Select Palace Hotel was built in 1938 by the Florentine architect Aldo Calstelfranco: cinema, theater, bar, restaurant, swimming pool and one hundred and fifty reinforced concrete cabins to satisfy guests' needs.

Sorto nei primissimi anni Venti con il nome di Select Palace Hotel, nel 1925 si innalza di due piani, impreziositi dal magnifico frontone che armonizza la parte centrale. Il tempo lo trasforma in un Grand Hotel di respiro internazionale e nella dimora favorita di aristocratici, intellettuali e artisti. Ribattezzato Grand Hotel Principe di Piemonte nel 1938, la sua eleganza seduce negli anni la fantasia di numerosi registi diventando teatro di prestigiose produzioni cinematografiche.
