Lovely tearoom in the castle walls, 25 minutes' walk from home, through Bute Park. It’s also right by the water taxi which takes you down to Cardiff Bay.

Lovely French restaurant with good sized portions. It’s a chain restaurant – but really doesn’t feel like it. It has an excellent pre-theatre deal for 2 courses for £14.95 before 6.45pm.

Our local. It’s quite trendy and the drinks aren’t overly expensive. They sometimes have live music, or they have a live music, or they have a good stock of boardgames and a nice menu.

If you fancy seeing a bit of the Welsh coastline whilst you’re here we recommend going to Merthyr Mawr. It’s a 25 mins walk through the sand dunes to get to the beach which is usually almost deserted.
