We’re lucky enough to live close to the BEST fish and chips ever - get the full Edinburgh experience and order with Salt n’ Sauce (the brown sauce - it’s Edinburgh ‘s famous chip sauce and here it comes on the side in a ramekin so there’s really no excuse not to give it a try!) and an Irn Bru. On a sunny evening it’s a good idea to order ahead online for collection (or they deliver!) and avoid the queue.

Easily accessible via the 36 bus which you can catch on Henderson Street just outside the flat. Or, if you fancy a stroll, you can use the Water of Leith walkway from just over the bridge at the shore (40 mins or so walk).

This is one of our favourite day trips - a cute town centre, glorious beach and lovely little shops to explore. Get lunch at the Lobster Shack, coffee and cake at Steampunk and ice cream at Alandas Gelato.

The must-do walk while you are here. From the base of Arthur's Seat it will take you around 40-45 mins to reach the top. It's an impressive extinct volcano which rises above the city to a height of 250.5 m (822 ft), providing excellent panoramic views of the city and beyond. It is relatively easy to climb and well worth it for the views!

At the top you'll find Edinburgh's 'disgrace' - the National Monument, inspired by the Parthenon in Athens, was intended to commemorate the Scottish servicemen who died in the Napoleonic Wars. Alas, it was never completed except just the twelve columns you see today.
