Djurgården can be reached by bus, tram or ferry from central Stockholm. Though on a beautiful summer day a walk along Strandvägen, from The Royal Dramatic Theatre to Djurgårdsbron, is highly recommended.

Stockholm Palace, officially the Royal Palace, has existed in the same place at Norrström on the northeastern Stadsholmen in Stockholm since the latter half of the 13th century. Its first century history belongs to the medieval Tre Kronor castle complex. In modern times, the term refers to the building called the Royal Palace, the one of the royal palaces in the country located in the Old Town district in Stockholm. The castle is the official residence of the Swedish monarch and fortifications have been located on this site since the Middle Ages. The current castle building was designed by Nicodemus Tessin the Younger and was built on the site after the old Tre Kronor Castle had been destroyed in a fierce fire on May 7, 1697. Due to the Great Nordic War, which was started by Saxe-Poland, Denmark and Russia 1700 and used enormous Swedish resources, construction work stopped completely in 1709 and only resumed in 1727 – six years after the end of the war. When Tessin died in 1728, the castle was completed under the direction of Carl Hårleman, who designed many of the castle's original Rococo interiors.
