Food scene

A very traditional English seaside town and home of the Admans brewery and distillery. Southwold boasts an old fashion Pier, promenade with beautifully painted beach huts, a working harbour selling freshly caught fish and a high street full of independents offering a varied retail experience. A short (20 min) drive and well worth a visit!

Halesworth is our nearest market town (approx 3 miles) and has a lovely feel. In the pedestrianised Throughfare you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to a nice coffee and something to eat and for a small place it has everything. From green grocers, butchers, a health food shop, a chemist to the independent bookshop and jewellers. Wednesdays are market day. Sadly not as many stalls as there used to be, but fresh fish, fruit and veg and delicious bread and cakes are still available. Watch out...Thursdays are still half day closing in Halesworth.

A small coastal village with two pubs, lovely walks, a deli and magnificent gift shop on the green! Catch the rowing boat ferry (not open all hours) across to Southwold and walk back over the Bailey Bridge. Watch out for several famous home owners in Walberswick!

Sightseeing

Framlingham, another pretty market town and the home to Ed Sheeran's 'Castle on the Hill.' Plenty of history and walks around the castle grounds. A buzzing market place, especially on a Tuesday and Saturday (market days).

City/town information

Norwich is about 45 mins drive from Walpole but is our nearest city and we love it. The usual shops, nice places to eat, the Theatre Royal and the Tombland area with the beautiful Norwich school and Cathedral.
