Sightseeing

Creswell Quay is a pretty village at the end of a tributary of the Cleddau Estuary. It is an ancient wooded estuary with great walks and salt marshes which are good for bird watching. The Creselly Arms on the quay is a good old fashioned pub, it only serves drinks, does nt allow children inside and I think it still only takes cash! The quay is great for kayaking at high tide which is when Cresswell Quay is at its prettiest. It is a great starting/landing spot to kayak/paddleboard along the estuary with the tide to Lawrenny or vice versa. The river drains dry at low tide with stepping stones crossing. Creswell is 30 mins from Sutton.

Lawrenny village and Lawrenny Quay are a pretty part of the Cleddau Estuary, the village is quaint with a small village shop and the quay is on the waters edge. At Lawrenny Yacht Station on the quay is the Lawrenny Arms which is good for a drink and basic pub food. There is also the Lawrenny Tea Rooms which is great day time only food serving crab sandwiches, baguettes, tapas, good wine, tea and cakes with a stunning river view. There is great 2 hour walk, starting at Lawrenny quay, walk past the tea rooms and through the boatyard to the footpath. Follow the path along the river edge through ancient oak trees. The path turns and runs alongside the Garron Pill. At the road turn right up the hill to Lawrenny. Walk through the church graveyard, over the hill, through the woods and down to the quay. Lawrenny is 35 mins from Sutton.

Picton Point is a great picnic spot overlooking the Cleddau Estuary. Drive past the entrance to Picton Castle and you'll get to an old ferry crossing opposite Landshipping. A great spot for lunch especially combined with a visit to Picton Castle and Gardens (see Picton Castle info in the attractions guidebook.) It is also a good spot to launch a kayak/paddleboard. Picton Point is 15 mins from Sutton.
