Cades Cove must have been like the Garden of Eden for settlers and still has a working farm and mill. It is a motor loop of pure beauty and historical homes, churches, and protected wildlife. Early a.m. is best for bear sightings, but I have seen them much later in the day. (Bears have been sighted on the property and road of the cabin, too). There is a gift shop and riding stables there as well.

Roaring Fork Motor Loop is another historic settler’s area that includes the ability to stop, walk, enter historical dwellings, take pics, and see some gorgeous creeks and waterfalls and it is free.
