Merciers is a Blue Ridge must-see. Depending on the season, you can take a tractor ride into the orchards to pick apples, peaches, berries, and more. The store itself has a restaurant, bakery, and lots of fun shopping. During the holidays, they have Santa come visit! It's a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

We love to take our little guy to the Mountain Valley Farm store. The farm itself is gorgeous and set in a valley with amazing sights. There is a petting zoo, and you can walk right up to see many of the farm animals. Inside the store, you can buy ultra fresh, high quality meats, cheeses, butter, coffee. It's delightful!

2021 Homer Wright RdWe love to take our little guy to the Mountain Valley Farm store. The farm itself is gorgeous and set in a valley with amazing sights. There is a petting zoo, and you can walk right up to see many of the farm animals. Inside the store, you can buy ultra fresh, high quality meats, cheeses, butter, coffee. It's delightful!
This is a lovely restaurant right on the Toccoa river with great fish dishes. Lovely views, and good for the family, too.

Dear God, I love this Cuban food. The empanadas, the Cuban sandwich, the chimichurri--it's all insanely good. Open from 10-4, it is a MUST.

Our favorite hikes
This is a very fun hiking spot. The drive out to the trail is an adventure itself. Very bumpy one-lane dirt road (make sure you go with plenty of day light) through the forest. The trail itself is mostly flat, but the last little bit of the way is steep enough that those with accessibility issues may be uncomfortable trying to descend. The bridge itself is historic and swings ever so slightly as you walk across! You get great views of the river, and lots of fun picnic spots. There are always families playing around the bridge. One of our favorite hikes!

The hike itself is short--.5 mile, but it is uphill the whole way and will get your heart rate up pleasantly. It's paved, which makes it nice, but I would NOT push a stroller up this joker. The views from the top are gorgeous. This is about an hour away from the cabin and is worth the trip out!

Older folks or mobility-impaired or the plain tired and don't feel like sweating crowd can take a shuttle to the top, which is included in the price of admission. Engelheim has an adorable German interior, good wine tastings, but the real joy are the amazing mountain views. It's simply stunning. Family friendly, too!

Chateau Meichtry is our favorite vineyard in the greater Blue Ridge area. It's got amazing views, and the wine is excellent. It feels like a true Napa/Sonoma spot nestled in the Georgia mountains.

This is a new vineyard in town, and it's lovely! The views are good, the wine is good, the ambience is great! It can be hard to find a fun place to spend a weekend evening in town, but Buckley often has live music and just great outside atmosphere. We brought our 3 year old, and it was no worries. There's also a food truck on the premises, and it's very close to the Mountain Valley Farm store, making it a great one-two punch visit!

It can be hard to find a fun place to spend a weekend evening in town, but Buckley often has live music and just great outside atmosphere. We brought our 3 year old, and it was no worries. There's also a food truck on the premises, and it's very close to the Mountain Valley Farm store, making it a great one-two punch visit!
This is a GREAT spot for families or couples looking to enjoy some wine and picnic. There are swings and games for the kids, a big area to run in, all in the shade by the river. It's gorgeous out there. Open weekends.

This is a great family friendly vineyard with a cupcake truck! Not sure if that's always there, but that was a hit. The views are absolutely gorgeous, too, and it's very close to the Mountain Valley Farm store, which is another favorite of ours.

Sightseeing
About an hour and fifteen minutes away from the cabin is the Nantahala river/national forest, where you can do some legit whitewater rafting! Looks so fun--we haven't done it yet. The area is gorgeous.

Take the kids on a train ride! This is especially fun to do at Christmas time, where Christmas characters like Rudolph, Frosty, the Grinch, etc. join Santa and Ms. Claus to entertain the kiddos. The ride is pretty and about 45 minutes long, total.
