The Hastings Heritage Trail is a four-seasons, multi-use recreational trail that follows an old railway line linking Hastings County. The Trail is open year-round and boasts a number of parking lots and access points along the route.
It welcomes hikers, cyclists, horseback riders, and recreational vehicle operators. Trails in Hastings County consist of a 156-km ribbon of land stretching from Glen Ross to Lake St. Peter, connecting them to the waterways of the Trent Canal System in the south and the edge of Algonquin Park in the north.
Within the right-of-way of the Hastings Heritage Trail are waterfalls, wetlands, and relics of ghost towns like Brinklow. Within sight of the trail are historical buildings like Hogan's Hotel, built in 1862, and other significant trances of the builders of the rail line.

High Falls Hiking Trail - 1.9 km, 30 minutes 1 way or 1 hour for return
Starting from the High Falls parking area, the trail follows an old road through a Red Pine plantation. It then becomes a footpath northward through hardwood forests on the west side of the York River. The trail connects with the first portage on the river then branches off to a rock point north of High Falls. From the end of the trail you have a view of the top of the rapids upstream of High Falls and a view downstream of the falls.

Our cottage is the perfect base to explore Algonquin Park, just 25 minutes from the East gate where there are many popular hiking trails such as Bat Trail, beaches and lakes e.g. Rock lake, Opeongo Lake and the Algonquin Logging Museum.

Beautiful wide sandy beach with shallow entry, Volleyball courts, Canoe & Kayak rentals - perfect place to squeeze out the most of the sun late into the warm summer evenings and enjoy the stunning sunsets over the lake. The park shop sells firewood and ice-creams. The park has two sweet hiking trails 3.5km with a kettle pond, cabin trail and lookout point.
