Well preserved castle with some really interesting Civil-War era history. Hiring a narrowboat and navigating the historic Leeds-Liverpool canal is a great one for the kids (and adults) too.

Shopping

Although it's a bit of a drive from Appletreewick (25 miles), the Black Sheep Brewery tour in Masham is really interesting, reasonably priced and you get free beer at the end! What's not to like?

Drinks & Nightlife

Great beer, great views, an excellent beer garden and the closest pub to the cottage. It was the first non-smoking pub in the world too.
