Food Scene

There are very few fancy pants places in State College; this is the standard fancy place. If you're a foodie, you're going to be disappointed. But if you're in the search for a non-pub meal then this is about as good as it's going to get downtown. The drinks and wine selection are the best part of the place. In fact, 90% of the time I go here, I am only there for drinks and appetizers.

It's Starbucks. But it's really close.

Everything Else

If you're coming to town with kids and need a daytime activity (especially in the winter) then you're going to want head to Discovery Zone. Great place for kids ages 1-10 to learn, play and discover with hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering and math. NOTE: They will be moving their location soon. Unfortunately, the new location will not be within walking distance.

Essentials

We don't have a Whole Foods in the area - Wegman's is our Whole Foods. Some argue it's better than Whole Foods - I think that's crazy talk - but you get the point, it's a good grocery store.

Parks & Nature

This park is right around the corner from our house. Perfect place for kids of all ages and a great place to spend some time (if the weather is good).

This park is a little further out (you'd have to definitely drive to it) but it's WAY better for the kids. They have two large play areas, wide open spaces to run around, bike/walking paths, a butterfly garden and horses. We go there all the time; my wife and I trade off doing jogs around the park area while the kids play.

I love this place. And let me say, I am not a gardening guy... so I am not just going here because it's a haven of beautiful plants/flowers. But how can you beat a place with a water fountain, a full space (with a cave) built for kids, peaceful views, a sun dial and an enormous open field. Obviously, not the best place in the winter but, if it's nice, you have to go. Plus, it's walking distance to the creamery.
