The Appalachian Trail (AT) in Sussex County, New Jersey, includes the High Point to Fox Gap section, which starts in Wantage Township. This 76.2 km trail is rated medium and can be completed in five days. The trail also includes the "Stairway to Heaven" section, which has a boardwalk, suspension bridge, and cow pasture and offers views of New Jersey. The trail also runs through two state parks, High Point and Stokes State Forest, intersecting with country lanes and park roads every few miles. The elevation in this section ranges from 350 to 1,685 feet, so hikers may prefer to walk downhill from north to south.
