Great sushi- but be warned- it can take forever. I think they bring in fresh gulf seafood daily though, so it's worth it if you aren't in a hurry.

Lovely authentic German bakery/coffee shop steps away from the loft! The food is delicious and the women are awesome. I think they are part of the families that came from Germany to work at the Mercedes plant not too far away.
They have wifi so get a cappuccino and study or work for a few hours. They open early and close early.

Hit the Alcove for a great selection of beers and a laid-back, older crowd (that is rare in a college town). Sit outside if the weather is nice.

Just a few doors down from the Loft is one of Tuscaloosa's breweries. Their beers are great ($5 a pint) and you can bring your own food or have it delivered. Games are upstairs and on Tuesdays they have trivia.
