To visit the Vesuvio i advice you to visit one full day. There are excursions to do, the duration is 1,5 - 2 hours. Level of difficulty easy. Anyway, They consider it unfit for big group of children under 8. Difference in height 250 meters.
It is better start the visit in the morning.
