This festival occurred at Max Yasgur’s dairy farm in Bethel, and over 400,000 fans appeared for the event, an unexpected attendance considering that the event was expected to have 50,000 at most. The three-day festival featured legendary performers like Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin and was labelled the Bethel Rock Festival. Have a guided tour that features both audio and visual exhibits and a movie theatre, and imagine the thrill of being part of the electric crowd cheering on to the performances on stage.

City/town information
Monticello may be small, but there's plenty to do in the picturesque Catskills destination. Located in Sullivan County, New York, Monticello is named after Thomas Jefferson’s famous Virginia estate. It's blessed by the scenic natural surroundings of the Catskills, offering a wealth of activities year-round, from nature walks to hitting the ski slopes at Holiday Mountain.
Parks
For some of the best outdoor recreation in the Monticello area, head to the Thompson Town Park, which despite its name is located within the Monticello village municipality. This park offers a number of outdoor recreation facilities, including hiking trails, cross-country skiing trails, a baseball field and a sledding hill. There are also pavilions and barbecue pits for summer use. This park is open from 8 a.m. to dark throughout the year.
Ski Resorts
Monticello is home to Holiday Mountain Ski and Fun Park, a popular winter resort that features seven downhill ski runs with chairlifts, ranging from the beginner-level Kroeger Pass to the more challenging Dead Man’s Run. Beginner skiing lessons are available for children and adults. During the off season, Holiday Mountain offers a wide range of fun family activities, including go-carts, bumper boats, mini-golf, batting cages and a climbing wall.
Lakes
The Monticello area is home to a number of small lakes where you can enjoy fishing, canoeing, kayaking and other aquatic activities. Derived from the Indian word for “clear water,” nearby Kiamesha Lake offers a campsite and two nature trails, Schiff Trail and Peenpack Trail, where you can observe local flora and fauna. Bailey Lake offers simple camping facilities.

Monticello is also home to the Monticello Casino and Raceway, a 40,000-square-foot facility where you can play slot machines and table games, attend a concert and have dinner. The area comprises approximately 5,000 acres, and contains a globally rare community of high altitude pitch pine barrens. The pitch pine barrens, and the matrix of chestnut oak forest that surrounds them, provide habitat for abundant flora and fauna, both rare and common.
Sam's Point contains a bounty of natural splendor. It is home to Lake Maratanza, one of the five Shawangunk sky lakes; ice cave crevices that you can explore; cliffs and numerous scenic vistas. Verkeerder Kill Falls, is a spectacular 187 foot high waterfall located on private property, please respect the use of private property and remain on the trail.
In order to protect both the visitor experience, and the unique ecosystem, Sam's Point has a small parking facility. Visitors should plan to arrive early, or visit at non-peak times, in order to obtain entry.

And, all this within an hour and a half drive from New York City.
Visitors can also enjoy hiking, biking, swimming, picnicking, scuba-diving, rock-climbing, bouldering, boating and marveling at the scenery. Horseback riding and cross-country ski trails are available as well. Technical Rock Climbing permitted.

Three marked hiking trails totaling more than 11 miles traverse the area.
Cold Spring Road Access Trailhead provides hiking access to the Neversink River on the RED marked trail. From the parking lot the river is about 3 miles.
Katrina Falls Trailhead provides access to the Mullet Brook loop about 5 miles on the BLUE marked trail. Also accessible from this point is the trail to High Falls; about 3 miles on the BLUE marked trail.
Wolf Brook Trailhead can also be used to access the Mullet Brook Loop and High Falls Trail.

Cold Spring Road Access Trailhead provides hiking access to the Neversink River on the RED marked trail. From the parking lot the river is about 3 miles.

Lochmor Golf Course is a wonderfully designed golf course. We boast 4 extremely difficult par 3’s and some reachable par 5’s. In some spots, the golf course offers birdies for the taking, while others will challenge you to make pars.
As a sister course to Tarry Brae Golf Course, Lochmor offers a different golfing experience. Two holes run alongside Morningside Lake. The views are spectacular, and the golf challenging.
