In Foothills, east of here, call to make sure they're open. They have some weird hours sometimes. I've never had their pizza; I'm sure it's good. What they're known for is their calzones. Super good!!! They're pricy, but a single calzone can feed two to three depending on the people.

As the name suggests, garden, it is outdoor seating only, but it's very charming. They have a limited menu, but what they have is very good. I don't think Yuma really has great Chinese food, but some claim Yummy Yummy is good. From the few times I've had it it was good. It's a little ways away, near the hospital. I know their prices are good.

There's never a line to cross into Mex, but sometimes there can be a long line to cross back into the states, either by auto or foot. There is a parking lot (for fee) next to border. If you want to visit Mex, but don't want to deal with big city, Algodones is very safe. There is generally more snow birds there than anybody else. It's a great place to find a dentist, orthodontist, ophthalmologist, or dermatologist for relatively inexpensive (compared to U.S.). Some just cross for a taco and a few bottles of cheaper booze. Be sure to check on boarder hours as they sometimes close earlier than expected.

Phx is about a 2 1/2 hr drive, so you can do a day turn around, but it would be a long day. You'd have to get up early, have your day well researched and planned out, and have designated driver that won't fall asleep.

It's pricey to stay the night, but, unfortunately, it can't be done from Yuma in a day trip as it's about a 4 1/2 trip one way. If you ever make it that far, especially if it's winter, take an extra 45 min to visit Flagstaff, home of NAU. If you're lucky, you'll catch it when it's snowing (which means chains are advisable in the winter). Flagstaff even has skiing; I don't know how good it is, though.
Last but not least is Tucson, which I have done in a day turn around from Yuma. It was a long day, but it was doable. I've not spent a lot of time in Tucson, so I can't really recommend anywhere specifically to visit, but what I can tell you is the city has a unique college town/city vibe (they sort of seem like an in between size). They've got cool restaurants and bard abound and everyone just seems chill.

I've not spent a lot of time in Tucson, so I can't really recommend anywhere specifically to visit, but what I can tell you is the city has a unique college town/city vibe (they sort of seem like an in between size). They've got cool restaurants and bard abound and everyone just seems chill.

Like Phoenix, it's about 2 1/2 hours away, but in the opposite direction, and, unlike phoenix, you will have to travel over about mountains about 3,500 feet in elevation over some twisty-turny roads (car sick anyone). During the winter it does snow in the mountain. It is doable to do a day trip to Mt. Laguna to visit the snow, but, beware, they will probably require chains. Near Mt. Laguna is Julian, a quaint mountain town that is know for it's apple orchards and apple pie. Like Phoenix, SD can be done in a day turn around trip, but it's exhausting. Especially because San Diego has so much to see (I mean, come on, the beach alone). To do SD justice, it really should be done in a two day trip minimum, staying at least one night. Depending on what you like to do, down town is fun as well as the waterfront, including Little Italy, which has a great farmers market on Saturday (I believe). There's The Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Balboa Park, Old Town, Sea World, the Del Mar Race Track in the summer, and every weekend has a full calendar of events.
