Provincial Parks

Mcrae Point Provincial Park is set on a small peninsula on Lake Simcoe, and is a scenic summer playground for swimming, hiking, fishing, and paddling. In this park, you can choose from a variety of camping spots. There are some found deep in the forest, near the lakes edge, and others in a beautiful, open meadow. A neat feature to explore is the drumlin on the south side of the park. It is covered with a hardwood forest that drains into a marsh and wetland. As you walk along the Water’s Edge Trail, keep your eyes open for yellow-throated vireos and rattlesnake fern. The trail winds around the point, past the park beach, and by the south shore of McPhee Bay. If you need to cool off during your walk, take a break at the beautiful beach and go for a dip in the clear waters of Lake Simcoe. You can also enjoy winter activities in this park. Please contact the park for more details. This park is just a 15 minute drive from our airbnb.

Ontario’s very first park and its largest, Algonquin is in the middle of the province, between the Ottawa River and Georgian Bay. Though it contains incredibly pristine wilderness, it’s only three hours from Toronto and about four-and-a-half from Ottawa. Outdoor aficionados call it some of the best camping in the world, whether in a backcountry tent or cozy pine cabin. You might call it your outdoor adventure central basecamp during your visit. Just get your park permit, check the weather forecast, and gear up. Approximately a 1.5 hour drive from our airbnb

Discovery Harbour traces its roots back to the original British naval and military base in Penetanguishene, built to safeguard access to Upper Canada after the War of 1812. By 1820, it was home to over 70 people, including sailors, officers, shipwrights, and soldiers. Five large ships, 15 smaller vessels, and numerous workshops and dwellings were built.

At the age of 59, Chris's father started a new chapter in his life and became a Franciscan Friar. On March 31 2019, Chris's father passed away, he was 87. Chris being the same age as his father when he started over, decided that he would honour his father by also starting a new chapter in his life. This choice to head life in a new direction with Chris made sense for Hermie. She had been catering food for events and office lunches for a few years and had a dream to open her own restaurant. When they found this location in Orillia, they fell in love with it, the counter seating, the red booths and so much more. Hermie and Chris spent the next two and a half months renovating and updating the space. Here, they created a rustic, yet homey, place for you to enjoy your next meal.

Thai food is most often quickly stir fried, steamed, or grilled. Such cooking methods, plus the use of fresh ingredients make it unusually healthy.Almost always, eating Thai style is a social affair that involves a group of people. Many herbs and spices in Thai cuisine have beneficial medicinal properties. All of us at Thai Plate In Orillia are grateful to be able to serve quality fresh healthful ingredients to our patrons.
