We think The Alpine Grind has the best coffee in town. They also have a tasty range of daily made sandwiches on in-house made bread (with vegan options), soups, great smoothies, breakfast bowls and pastry treats. Alpine grind has a very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and, on sunny days, it's a great place to enjoy good food, coffee and to watch the Methven world go by.

Roads and weather warnings
Being an alpine village, we are so lucky to have wonderful snowy mountains and rivers at our door step. With this, Mid Canterbury can also get some unexpected turbulent weather systems. Please ensure you check the conditions prior to driving to Methven and its surrounds. Ashburton Council website regularly updates their website for road closures, weather warnings and water conditions. In the event of flooding, Ashburton Council sometimes issues a 'boil water notice'. We will alert you if this situation occurs and, we will supply you with bottled water if there is a boil water notice in place.

Pack for the seasons
Methven has a diverse climate which changes drastically from season to season. If you are here in the Autumn/winter months, make sure you pack layers, a good quality coat or two and warm socks. For some outdoor activities it's better to dress as if you're heading to the ski fields. Summer months are lovely and warm and can hit temperatures in the 30° area. But, there has been the random cold snap (snow on a Christmas summer day) so be prepared for all season and, check the conditions before traveling.

The Methven Walkway & Fairy walkway
The Methven walkway can be up to 11kms long (if you want it to) and is packed with scenery. Our favourite walk passes by Opuke hot pools, turns left onto the fairy walkway and cuts through the forest towards the base of the southern alps. From their you can follow the water inlet and signs back into Methven town. From The Studio this loop is around 6kms. Ask us or Methven i-sight visitor centre for more info. This walk is dog friendly (lead recommended).
