Gourmet fusion-Asian right on the docks of Tjuvholmen, Aker Brygge. Closest thing you get to the standards of NOBU. When celebs come to Oslo they might stay at fabulous Thief Hotel across the tiny canal and eat at Hanami.

Small, super-cosy homestyle restaurant with friendly chef. Like eating in somebody's Frogner home. All restaurants recommended here can be reached by foot, apart from 'Frognerseteren' at Holmenkollen.

This place look like a giant mountain cabin where the fire place always burns. Traditional food with the best view of Oslo and the Oslo Fjord. They have both a buffet-style café with everyday Norwegian dishes and a gourmet restaurant with Reindeer steak, Fondue and other mountain-style delicacies. You can take the subway up there, past the famous skijump arena.

Here you can come for some lunch or just some snack and cold wine or beer and sit directly at the docks on the boat harbour and get the real summer feeling. They have a floating sauna in case you would like a refreshing dip in the fjord and they rent out Stand Up Paddleboards (SUP). Walking distance from flat, just take the bridge across the highway at Skillebekk and you are there.

For Mexican street food this is by far the most authentic place and there's two of these very close to the flat. One in super charming Niels Juels gate and one in Bogstadveien.

Breakfast or brunch? Okay, so.. this place has the best tuna melt toast in Oslo. No doubt. Great menu that makes you feel like you are in California or other place where there's an extensive breakfast menu including stuff with avocado and chilli. They also make great smoothies and juices. An old paint shop has been transformed into a sandwich / juice joint and without touching the original shop front decor. Recommendable.

Old-school-styled bakery and coffeeshop. Very cosy and very nice and bright with big windows all along the seated areas. 'Gimle' part of Frogner up on top of the hill if you walk up Frognerveien. Tables outside as well.

Not in the mood for fancy restaurants? Just up the road (Briskebyveien), 100 meters from the flat, is a place to pick up tasty pizzas. Call them in advance to place and order or just turn up and wait 15 minutes for it to be made.

Not in the mood for high-end restaurants? This is a very relaxed sushi and Asian Fusion restaurant just up the street. Great food. Walk up Briskebyveien until you see it on your left. Approx. 4 minutes walk from the flat. On the way you will walk past Pizza Pancetta which I also recommend for quick solution.

This little oasis has become a neighbourhood favourite for many people on Frogner with their two intimate floors inside, a winter garden and a huge outdoor area, popular in the spring and summer. Situated along Oscarsgate, two blocks to the right when you come out of the building.

Sightseeing

The Oslo Fjord is beautiful in the summer-half of the year and a must-see when in Oslo. You can take a cruise from Aker Brygge and it will cruise between some of the many pretty islands of the fjord and offer a visit to Bygdøy museums as well.

Shopping

Modern shopping inside historical buildings. Great asian buffet offerings in the food court downstairs. Great half-way point for a shopping spree up Hegdehaugsveien and Bogstadveien, ending back at Parkveien where you can have a coffee at Espresso House or Literaturhuset with a view to the 'Castle Park'.

Activities

A huge skiing resort in the center of Oslo? Yepp. Only 19 minutes drive from my flat you will find a fantastic winter park with plenty of hills for all skill-levels and many new comfortable chairlifts taking you where you want to go; Eriksen, Hyttli, Tårnbakken or Wyller. Parks with jumps and rails and pipes for those who like adrenaline. Oslo Winter Park usually opens around end of November or start of December. You can get there by subway train! Or dedicated busses. From my flat, take the tram to Majorstuen and then you can jump on the subway or bus there. And.. they are open until 10pm in the evening on week days! Enjoy.

If you like a cold dip and sauna this is the place for you! Very popular in the winter. Also a place like this in Frognerkilen at Kongen Marina. The latter is walking distance from the flat while KOK is a few stops on the tram (opposite the Opera House).

A nice place to go for a swim next to the Opera House, down town. Be aware, very crowded on hot summer days. Then it is better to swim at Tjuvholmen, Aker Brygge or at Huk or Paradise Beach on Bygdøy peninsula. You can also travel out to Fornebu for a very nice beach and park area called Storøyodden.

Neighborhoods

For shopping surrounded by docks, boats and fjord. The new tip of Aker Brygge is called Tjuvholmen and there you can take a swim in the summer. There's even a small beach there but most people jump into the fjord from the docks. Nice place to have a drink or a bite to eat as well.

Samgöngur

The tram stop is just around the corner (literally).

It will take you downtown or the opposite direction to Majorstuen. In both instances you can switch to subway if desired, at National Theatre Station or at Majorstuen Station and here there are endless possibilities including both trams and subways. You can also walk and see most stuff worth seeing from where you live in Oscarsgate. You can take the bus to the beautiful peninsula 'Bygdøy' (Viking Museum), from Solli Plass or from Bygdøy Allé. There you can go to Paradise Beach or Huk Beach. If you fancy cliff jumping into the sea, the walking path to Paradise Beach passes by 8-10m cliffs.
Sparnaðarleiðir

Supermarkets nearby

If you would like to save money and eat in the flat, there are several supermarkets very close by. REMA 1000 in Briskebyveien. KIWI further up same road. Another Kiwi two blocks along Oscarsgate to the left when exiting the building. There's also a small 'Joker' grocery store just 100 meters up the road along the tram line.

Swimming in the Oslo Fjord.

In the summer the entire Oslo Fjord becomes one big swimming pool. You will see people jumping in pretty much everywhere, including down town (Sørenga, Aker Brygge, Tjuvholmen, Frognerkilen, Bygdøy, etc, etc). Between early June and late August there will be acceptable temperatures in the sea, between 18-25 degrees celsius. You will also find traditional Scandinavian saunas both at Kongen Marina and at docks next to the Opera House. Enjoy a refreshing swim!

West End shopping beats downtown shopping.

Personally I would rather shop on Frogner and Majorstuen (Hegdehaugsveien leading on to Bogstadveien and ending up at Majorstuen-krysset, where you also can find the new shopping center Valkyrien) than downtown on Karl Johans Gate. The latter has become very touristic and also not all that pleasant in terms of clientele, in particular the part close to Oslo Central Station. For more of a Berlin feeling, visit Grünerløkka east of the Aker River. Here you will find a more bohemian vibe.

No need to go far for a coffee!

There are 7 coffeeshops very close to the apartment: Kaffebrenneriet x 3 (Hegdehaugsveien, Parkveien and Frognerveien). Joe&TheJuice (Oscarsgate). Espresso House (Parkveien) and Mocca (Briskebyveien).
