Worth a visit
Dehesa de Campoamor is the most southerly area. It has a beautiful long sandy beach, at one end of which is a picturesque marina and club house as well as the Aguamarina Natural Coastal Park. Three 18 hole golf courses are situated in the area; Dehesa de Campoamor, Las Ramblas and Las Colinas, the latter of which has a wonderful 3 and 5km Nature Trail for non golfers to enjoy.

It is packed with bars, cafes and restaurants offering day and evening entertainment ranging from bands to bingo and quizzes to karaoke. Every year on the 17th March there is a large and lively St Patricks Day Fiesta.

La Zenia has two very popular sandy beaches to relax at and lots of bars, cafes and restaurants which are dotted around the area. It also has the impressive La Zenia Boulevard Shopping Centre, opened on the 26th September 2012 it is the biggest mall in the province of Alicante.

Playa Flamenca is a very popular destination with a large seafront plaza and a fine sandy beach, rocky coves, cliffs and great views. There are plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants to choose from all with lively atmospheres, both on the beach and in the commercial centres. The town hall with the helpful tourist office is situated on the inland side of the main N332 road and the Saturday morning market is one of the largest and busiest in the area. The municipal sports centre is also located in the Playa Flamenca area of the Orihuela Costa.

There are plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants to choose from all with lively atmospheres, both on the beach and in the commercial centres. Villamartin is situated 3 km inland from the beaches. The 18 hole golf course, which was the first one to be created in the Orihuela Costa, is well established and always busy. The Plaza at Villamartin is a superb place for a good night out and a perfect destination to celebrate those special evenings. Full of Spanish charm with its ceramic tiles, iron balconies and lamps, the Villamartin Plaza has a reputation as a very popular destination within this area. Making your mind up where to dine, is all part of the experience as you walk around the two levels and take in the atmosphere that is provided by the internal garden with its palm trees and fountain.

We usually shop at Mercadona and Aldi, which are the grocery stores that are closest to the apartment. If I am going to walk to the nearest, which is Mercadona, I spend about 15 minutes with normal walking.

It’s one of our favourite things to do, it’s cheap, safe and family-friendly too. It is a great way to explore the local area and stop by hidden beaches and coves that you might not have otherwise found.

I would recommend renting a car. I can recommend someone who also offers to pick you up at the airport, and then the rental car is ready outside the apartment. They will also drive you back when you go home again. I prefer this solution.
