Voted one of the “Top 10 American Train Rides” by USA Today, The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad operates rail excursions through Western NC, traveling through tunnels, across rivers and lakes, through mountain valleys and into a deep river gorge. Each season brings something new to the train ride. In the spring, trees are budding and special excursions begin. In summer, you can add a package of whitewater rafting or ziplining to your ride. In the fall, see the colors during daily “Leaf Looker” excursions. In November and December, go on the railroad's famous, Polar Express; one of the most popular holiday events in the Smokies.

Why's this a favorite for kids? A couple reasons... #1 There are 7,000 Lionel™ engines, cars and accessories. #2 There are LOTS of buttons to push that make the display come to life. #3 There is a scavenger hunt (complete it and you get a prize!) #4 the museum has a gift/toy shop. (Tip! You get in the museum free if riding the train!)

If your little one has lots of energy, do yourself a favor and go to Darnell Farms! Why is it a top pick for Daniel? Lots of room to run, fishing, giant swings, lots to climb and Dream Whips (Think Ice Cream, but better). Seasonally, Darnell Farms has strawberry or pumpkin picking, hayrides, corn mazes, festivals, holiday lights and more.
