Nice restaurant on Magic Sands (White Sands) beach about I mile south of the condo. Good Sunday brunch. The beach is called magic sands because at time the currents carry the sand away and there is only rock.

At the end of the road on the north end of the island. Beautiful views with a trail down to the beach. Steep and can be slippery after rains. Another hike is to the Captain Cook Monument. Strenuous. Go early. Take water. Good snorkeling but difficult to get in and out because of urchins.

AT Ray's Bar may be able to see Manta Rays in the evening. A night snorkel with the Mantas is quite an experience. The guidebooks at the airport have ads for the boats that do these trips.

If you like to hike this is a moderate to difficult trail to the Monument. Good snorkeling but difficult to get in and out of the water--spiny urchins. Not much shade. Take plenty of water. Trailhead is across the street from 3 palms. Usually cars parked there.

Samgöngur

Because of the size of the Island a rental car is suggested

There are public buses and the Kona Trolley that stop in front of Kona Bali Kai. Check the internet for prices and routes. There are bicycles for rent. The nearest is at Magic Sands (White Sands) beach about a mile south.

Activities

Surfing: If you are interested in surfing lessons try Ohana Surf. Snorkeling: My favorite spot is Two Step Beach. Bring cash to pay for parking. Hiking: Try the Captain Cook hike to hike down to the water and see a monument to Captain Cook. There is also great snorkeling at the bottom of the trail. This is a hot, open trail so bring lots of water. Sometimes you even see wild pigs and goats.

Things to note

Island Time: Most locals are on island time, which is not always punctual or quick. We should all channel the island time mentality.
