Entertainment & Activities

Going to this cinema is quite an experience as it is probably one of the most run down cinemas in the country that is still actually open. On the plus side it does add immeasurably to the atmosphere if you're going to see a horror film. All joking aside though it is just about the cheapest cinema that you will visit anywhere in the country

This modern ten pin bowling centre is about a five minute drive away from the Muntham Townhouse and is close to Torquay harbour. There is plenty of on street parking around the AMF bowling centre and a large car park at the Terrace nearby.

This is a more modern and smarter place to see films than the cinema in Torquay BUT it is nearly double the price. There is plenty of parking in the winter months on the esplanade road which means you only have a five minute walk to get to the cinema. n the summer months the esplanade road is closed to traffic and parking can be a little trickier as there are lots of yellow lines around. Having said that, there are nearby car parks.

The Kents is just a five minute walk from The Muntham Apartments and is perhaps one of the nicest pubs in the whole of The Bay. It is incredibly relaxed and friendly and attracts a mixed clientele. Apart from drinking it is also a good place for meal with a substantial menu plus daily specials.

This is is the home to the TOADS theatre company which is an amateur company. It is run along the lines of an old fashioned repertory company and has a packed programme throughout the year. It also hosts some small touring productions that demand a more intimate space.

Way before pretty much anything else existed in Torquay, a religious order was established close to the sea. It grew and became one of the wealthiest in the country but finally succumbed to Henry VIII. It then had a life as the home of the wealthy Cary family before passing into municipal hands. Today it offers a fascinating insight into hundreds of years of local and national history.

A fifteen minute walk from the Townhouse, this theatre is privately owned and very quirky. It is home to a variety show from most of the year and also hosts a lot of one night professional touring shows.

Small Museum that really punches above its weight. Has really interesting exhibits on local explorers as well as the country's only Agatha Christie gallery....

Shopping

This is quite a rarity these days; an independently owned department store. Following a big recent refit it has transformed from a slightly dowdy uninspiring store into something very chic and modern.

Essentials

For a convenience store , this is a little cut above the average and obviously reflects the tastes of its clientele in the affluent Wellswood area. It always seems busy and apart from the basics you can get some nice luxury items here too

Parks & Nature

Cockington Court is the old manor house that sits at the centre of Cockington Country park. This is a wonderful place to stretch the legs and explore. There are hidden delights such as the series of lakes and the old Saxon Church and there are surprises such as the modern craft studios that are behind the manor house. Cockington Village has some wonderful tea rooms to round off a trip. Tip: Park in the Coastal and Countryside Trust car park as it is cheaper than the council one. This car park can be found by turning left as you reach the centre of the village.
