The harbor of Nysted encapsulates the picturesque and cozy area. It is well worth the visit just to walk along the shore and take in the atmosphere of sailing boats lulling in the water and a view of the castle from afar. Get there by a 15 min scenic bike ride from Mårbæklund and 5 min drive.

Aalholm Slot is not so much a place to visit right now as it is under renovation and closed to the public. The castle is however an important staple in Nysted Region. Built in the 13th century. It is currently owned by the richest man in Denmark and is set to be renovated into a conference center.

Magnificent massive sculptures arranged like a Stonehenge. A must see if you go to the west side of Lolland, about a 45 min drive.

Døllefjelde-Musse Nature Park is a disused gravel pit area that is being converted into a kind of plant history museum. Beautiful visit for potentially a picnic!

Experience
When in Nysted in the summer time, you should take this small boat for a lovely one hour trip to the place where the seals are found. The captain can tell you a lot about the wildlife and the area, and even in case of bad weather, you will take pleasant memories with you home.

Nysted Orgelmuseum is a lovely museum with a lot of historical danish organs, harmonium, pianos and harpsichords. It is the only "Organ Museum " in the North of Europe.
There is a beautiful private-garden and a pond at the back-side of the museum. There you can sit and listen the singing of birds, and enjoy the nature.
The owner of the museum, Panna and Jacob together with a super sweet pup also are showing all the instruments and explaining the rare organs, when you visit the museum.

A truly scenic estate with associated brewery. Here, attention is on the details and in particular the good taste. Definitely worth a visit!

This safaripark is how a zoo should be! A great place to being kids!
Drive around and experience the animals in their natural environments, grazing the grass and walking around. Can highly recommend.

Restaurant Ö is probably the best restaurant in the region, and I don't say that just because the previous owners of Mårbæklund run the restaurant.
Enter into a charming restaurant of high quality food served with a delicate touch of the Copenhagen natives Søren and Lea.
Also, why not say hi from Mårbæklund?

Fjelde Guesthouse is an award-winning guesthouse 15 min away from Mårbæklund.
Built inside an old school and impeccably decorated by the skilled Rikey from Iceland, they also have a lovely restaurant.
The guesthouse is run by my mother and father in law and is therefore ideal if you are a larger party who want to book something together... perhaps its time to tie the knot?
There is after all a Wedding venue at Mårbæklund as well!

In the summertime, restaurants can be fully booked quite early on. Book your restaurant visits ahead of time with at least two days margin in order to secure a place.

Pack indoor shoes
Mårbæklund is an old farm and comes with a big beautiful garden. To save your feet from splinters and avoid having a muddy interior, bring some slip-on shoes for strolling the inside of the house.
