Shelburne Museum is the largest art and history museum in northern New England and a foremost public resource for visual art and material culture. The Museum's 45-acre campus is comprised of 39 buildings, 25 of which are historic and were relocated to the Museum. This is the perfect stop for a day's outing which includes a delightful 25-minute ferry ride from Essex to Charlotte, VT.

Lake Champlain and the Adirondack region in general has a rich history in the French and Indian War as well as The Revolutionary War. A trip to Fort Ticonderoga, a large 18th century fort built at the narrows near the south end of Lake Champlain, is an excellent stop for history lovers of all ages. Note that the the Fort is closed on Monday's. The kids will love visiting and watching the historical reenactments. There are costumed docents who provide a wealth of historical information on the Fort and its history. If time permits, plan to end your day with a drive up Mount Defiance, a short 3 mile trip, to soak up the stunning view. Driving time to Ft. Ticonderoga from Partridge is approximately one hour.

The fifth highest mountain in the Adirondack's High Peaks Region, Whiteface Mountain offers stunning 360-degree views of the Adirondacks and, on a clear day, glimpses of Vermont. What is unique about this mountain is the Whiteface Veterans' Memorial Highway which offers seasonal accessibility by car to the top of the mountain. The fee for vehicle & driver is $20 with an additional $20 per passenger. Parking is at an elevation of 4,600 feet. Once you park you have the option of going to the summit either by the Stairway Ride Trail, a sometimes steep footpath with handrails that is approximately 0.2 miles. Or, take the elevator to the top! For $25/person (children under 6 are free), you can experience the majesty of the Adirondack High Peaks from the comfort of an 8-passenger, high-speed gondola cabin. Driving time to Whiteface Mountain from Partridge is approximately 1 hour.
