Nice pubs

If you want a peaceful beer garden with a view, this is one of my favourites. There's usually plenty of seating outside, as this place only really comes alive when the sun is shining. You can't access this pub by car either, so you have to walk or cycle. I actually had my 30th birthday party here and love it (although I recommend only as a drinking place, not for food). You can walk there from the house in about 30 minutes (this is the quick route although not the prettiest), or take a de-tour and go all along the Thames path from the Kings Arms.

One of my favourite pubs for food. The roasts are amazing, and if you eat meat, they're famous for their steak platters. Although if you're a veggie, the vegetarian mezze is also delicious.

This pub is in walking distance from the house, and it’s the one featured on the pictures. It’s a 15-20 minute walk, and has a large beer garden overlooking the river. I’d recommend it for a nice spot for a drink.

Buzzy pub that sometimes has a flea market. Great food and snacks with an outside area.

Good places for food

It's hard to get a table here, but if you do, you're in for a treat. It's small and bookings are taken months in advance, although you can rock up early and get one of the few walk in bookings if you get your timing right. The food is delicious. Really delicious.

The food here is amazing. I love it. It's in Jericho which is the other side of Oxford, but worth the visit. Don't take my word for it either, food critic Giles Coren once described it as 'the best authentic Chinese/Malaysian in the country'!

If you're coming by train, this is right by the station! Delicious south Indian food all at a reasonable price. The masala dosas are fab.

Super cute pub with a lovely garden in Wolvercote, right by Port Meadow. The garden has goats and chickens in and the food is reliably tasty.

The pizzas here are great and there’s a great little courtyard garden with booths. I haven’t been for a while but I hear it’s still good as ever

Places for nature

If you're into nature, then the RSPB Otmoor reserve is great. Around Autumn, you could be lucky to see starling murmurations over the water, as well as numerous other birds.

Three clumps to walk up, lovely views over the Oxfordshire countryside. I used to work on this reserve so it's very special to me, and I hope other's will appreciate too.

Port Meadow is a lovely area. Some people go swimming here but it’s great for a picnic. Also a long walk with pubs around such as The Perch, The Trout and Jacobs Inn which I have also recommended.

Something a bit unusual

Ignore the title, I'm trying to tell you about a local secret! Jane's Enchanted Tea Garden. If you google it, you should get an idea of opening times as it's quite sporadic. It's rustic I must warn, so not everyone's cup of tea. It's a very twee little place on the canal for cream teas and lots of cakes. Summer only though.

This is a cute cocktail bar which is all Mad Hatter themed obviously. You have to answer a riddle to get in (yes it's a bit silly), but it's a quirky place with kareoke facilities.
