A very pretty little town with a few reasonable restaurants. The Medieval Festival held every other year in August is worth visiting!

Very attractive medieval town with excellent restaurants. Good for an early evening crepe or meal after a trip to Jugon les Lacs. La Fête des Remparts (Medieval Fete) is held in July every other year.

Just 15 mins on from Moncontour is Lamballe, a gem of a place – like a mini-Dinan but closer and easier to get around! There’s a big market on a Thursday morning but otherwise we would advise parking in the main square and wander into the centre of the town – which has many beautiful artisan shops, restaurants and cafes and beautiful medieval buildings Great for an evening apéritif or meal on the way back from Pléneuf-Val-André. The Haras de Lamballe is worth visiting for pony-loving children – an educational centre with horse-drawn carriage rides and stud farm.

Suggestions for nearby walks and cycle rides
Just down the hill from the house is the river Lié - on the edge of the ancient forest of Loudéac. The stepping stones have been in place for centuries to help travellers cross the river. In the summer the banks are full of dragonflies. The mill was recently renovated and is used to demonstrate milling of grain into flour.

Beaches

The closest coastal beach to La Ville Josse. There are three beaches around the resort of Pléneuf-Val-André. To get to the most secluded of these follow signs to Centre d’Hébèrgement which is on top of the headland. Otherwise you can park in the centre of Val André and go to the main beach which has plenty of facilities i.e. loos, shops, restaurants. The beach further to the west has plenty of rock pools. A favourite of ours is the stall selling sucettes (lollipops) with enticing flavours such as Poppy, Ocean, Bergamot, Yuzu, Candy Floss... The Miniature Port is a delight for both children and adults keen to be children!

Particularly beautiful and interesting beach with sand dunes at the west end of the town. A lovely riding centre where experienced riders can book 2 hour accompanied beach rides.

Has an attractive harbour and beautiful beach at the west end of the town. Also a number of good restaurants and a superb ice cream shop with a compelling ice cream display to deliberate over.. The Cod Festival (La Morue en Fête) takes place each year at the end of May - crafts, exhibitions and folk and rock music celebrate the tradition of cod fishing!

From Plessala head to & through Plangenoual - along some beautiful country lanes you will come to La Plage de Cotentin. It is enormous – at low tide the mussel beds are exposed and you can see the tractors harvesting the mussels. Walk along the beach to the east and up the steps at the promontory, and head back along the coastal path (signposted Jospinet) to the restaurant La Moulerie de la Baie – superb seafood as you would expect! A nice little place for lunch if you are heading on to Le Val André.

An attractive village with some nice restaurants. Sailing is available on the lake where you can hire boats, canoes and paddle boards. There are outside & indoor swimming pools with flumes if you don’t fancy swimming in the lake. There is also mini golf and a snack bar on site.

Beautiful Spots

A 15 minute cycle ride away is the former iron and steel site which employed around 400 workers up till the middle of the 19th century. Now a very pretty and peaceful place with beautifully kept buildings including the house of the Master of the forges and the chapel.
