City/town information

Kenilworth is a small market town, about a mile from here. It has individual shops and two supermarkets. Kenilworth is perhaps best known for the iconic Kenilworth Castle where tickets can be purchased from English Heritage https://englishheritage.seetickets.com/ Follow in the footsteps of Queen Elizabeth I who stayed here for 15 days. It was given to one of her favourites, Robert Dudley, the Earl of Leicester. Throughout the year there are different activities at the Castle so do keep checking to see what's on. Just around the Castle there is a pleasant, easy, circular walk, part of the Millennium Way. For the more adventurous there are longer walks around the area. The Priory Theatre is a small community theatre in Kenilworth. There's something for everyone and tickets can be bought from: https://www.priorytheatre.co.uk/

Sightseeing

An extremely attactive town Leamington Spa is known for its architecture. The colonnaded Pump rooms now have a free art gallery combined with a museum on the local history of Leamington as well as a library and cafe. There are a quite a few parks in Leamington but Jephson Gardens is really attractively laid out and has an aviary as well as a cafe. Sometimes, in the summer, there are outdoor theatre productions within the garden. The Royal Spa Centre hosts lots of shows suitable for everyone. There is also a Vue Cinema. There are lots of pretty shops and good eateries. There really is plenty to do in Leamington! https://www.royal-leamington-spa.co.uk/whats-on/

About 15 minutes from where I live Stratford-upon-Avon is steeped in history. Famous for being Shakespeare's birthplace, it really is a very attractive town with lots of the original buildings that would have been around when Shakespeare was alive. Visit Anne Hathaway's Cottage, the home of Shakespeare's bride to be. https://www.shakespeare.org.uk/visit/shakespeares-birthplace/ It has its own cinema. https://www.everymancinema.com/ The Royal Shakespeare Company Theatre always has lots to see https://www.rsc.org.uk/ Boat hire is available from Avon boating. https://www.avon-boating.co.uk/ Visit Stratford's Butterly farm. https://www.butterflyfarm.co.uk/attraction/ There really is plenty to see and do as you can see. It has lots of individual shops as well as some of the bigger brands as well. There are lots of different eateries to suit everybody's taste.

Food scene

I live in the small village of Leek Wootton which is situated conveniently in the triangle of Kenilworth, Warwick and Stratford upon Avon. There are lots of walks around the village of Leek Wootton which can be accessed from: https://footpathmap.co.uk/ The Anchor Inn, the village's local pub, serves good pub food. It is ideally situated just over the road from us.

We are extremely lucky in this area that there are many eateries - too many to mention! Cafés Forrest Coffee House: Contemporary feel; as well as coffee, serves home-made cakes and local produce. Deli on the Hill: Serves excellent, breakfast and brunch as well as homemade cakes, situated right next to the Castle. Lunch and Dinner Harringtons on the Hill: Very good food for both lunch and dinner. Rated Travellers' Choice on Trip Advisor in 2021. The Cross: This restaurant is that little bit special and has a well deserved Michelin star. Serves lunch and dinner. The Indian Edge: Smart Indian restaurant with a menu of curry house classics and regional options, plus takeaway.

Leamington Spa has a host of eateries suitable for all tastes but I've noted a few that I can recommend. Cafés Spa Town Coffee: Serving obsessively made artisan coffee, world hot chocolate and amazing loose leaf tea. The Larder: Situated in the historic pump rooms, this is a top place for from-scratch fare & house-baked treats including options for restricted diets. Lunch and Dinner Bebas: Visit Bebas modern greek to taste perfectly cooked pork, chicken gyro and halloumi. Do not go away without trying good baklava. You will be offered great coffee too! Carisma Tapas: Authentic tapas restaurant and bar in the heart of Leamington Spa. Hayashi: Low-key haunt for sushi, sashimi & other Japanese classics, plus lunch bento boxes & salads. The Drawing Board: An Award Winning Independent Free House In Leamington Spa Serving An Eclectic Mix Of Gourmet Bar Food & A Stunning Selection Of Craft Beers. Has good vegan choices too. Oscars Steakhouse and Bistro: Authentic French dining room with a convivial vibe, serving bistro fare and famed steak frites.

Guests and travellers are spoilt for choice regarding good cafes and restaurants in Stratford upon Avon. Sheep street in particular has lots of good places to dine and has an 'old wordly' feel to it! Cafés Honey Blue: Pastries, snacks & specialty coffees served in a laid-back cafe that has a terrace. Planatarium café: Laid-back hangout making coffee with locally roasted beans, plus global plant-based meals & cakes. A fab vegan eatery. Lunch and Dinner Loxley's Wine Bar: Cosy 2-floor restaurant with exposed brickwork, an open fire, terrace seating and Sunday roasts. The Opposition: Bistro for Modern European food, pre-theatre menu, and exposed timber and brick, plus bold colours. Lambs: Cosy restaurant, with eclectic dining and modern seating, in a 16th-century house with wood beams. Vintners: Modern British and European menus including pre-theatre in smart, exposed brick and timber rooms.
