Just a 15 minute walk away, or a quick number 10 bus ride, is the best fish and chips in town. You can eat in the restaurant or outside by the water. they also serve beer and wine but it's more a restaurant than a bar.

Dog and child friendly! ‘Lost In Leith’ Bar & Fermentaria showcase some of Campervan’s classics alongside a full array of weird and wonderful beers from all over the world. With a focus on Scottish produce, suppliers and sustainability, they locally source many of the spirits and the wine list has a big emphasis on producers who follow low-intervention practices. They do not serve any hot food but customers are more than welcome to order food from a local takeaway to be delivered whilst enjoying drinks. They also have partnered with Pizza Geeks just across the road - customers can order with them and not be charged a delivery fee. Their menu can be viewed on the Pizza Geeks website.

Gulp Ramen make excellent Japanese food, including fresh noodles and broth. their ramen is excellent, as are all their small plates (try the Korean chicken). it's super small so best to book a table, and they have a small but good wine and beer selection.

We wouldn't normally recommend a chain restaurant but Dishoom is very good (it's a small UK chain with restaurants in major UK cities). they serve Bombay comfort food and first-class cocktails all day, every day, including a great breakfast and spicy bloody Mary.

The Sheep Heid Inn is a public house in Duddingston, Edinburgh, Scotland. There has reputedly been an inn on this site since 1360, although the core of the current building appears to date from the 18th century with later additions and alterations.[1] If the 1360 foundation date was proved correct it would make The Sheep Heid Inn perhaps the oldest surviving licensed premises in Edinburgh, if not Scotland. they serve traditional pub food and ales. they are child friendly and even have a small indoor bowling lane.

Outside of Edinburgh Sightseeing

Stirling Castle is located in Stirling, about a one hour train ride from Edinburgh. The castle is a 15 minute walk from the Stirling train station. you can spend the full day in Stirling if you want or just go to the castle and back. Stirling Castle was the key to the kingdom of Scotland, dominating a vast volcanic rock above the river Forth at the meeting point between Lowlands and Highlands. Its origins are ancient and over the centuries it grew into a great royal residence and a powerful stronghold. During the Wars of Independence, which were civil wars among the Scots as well as a struggle between Scotland and England, the castle changed hands eight times in 50 years. And it is no accident that famous battles such as Stirling Bridge and Bannockburn took place within sight of its walls. In times of peace Scottish royalty came to Stirling to enjoy its comforts, the superb hunting and to hold court – the castle was often the centre of government. Royal building projects like the Great Hall, the Chapel Royal and the Palace of James V, marked it out as one of the most important places in all Scotland. Infamous deeds took place here, like the murder of the earl of Douglas by James II. It was also a childhood home of some of the most famous people in Scottish and British history, such as Mary Queen of Scots and James VI and I. Later it became an important military base and eventually home to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. Since the last of the soldiers marched away it has seen major projects to return the main buildings to their original magnificence. Nowadays Stirling Castle is famous internationally as one of Scotland’s must-see visitor attractions.
