Great wiskey selection, upscale farm to table menu. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner just a few blocks away. Its a nice walk. Focusing on wood-fired meats, seafood and pizzas and boasting the largest whiskey collection in town, The Manship sounds like it would be named after a decidedly masculine sailing vessel. In truth, the name comes from the historic gothic revival mansion located not too far from the restaurant in Belhaven. The Manship strives to utilize whole animal cookery whenever possible out of respect for the farmers and their livestock that provide the proteins. This philosophy shows up throughout the Mediterranean-leaning menu from charcuterie boards of cured meats to pasta sauces to pizza toppings.

Take a virtual trip to a cozy European bistro at this all-day café in Belhaven. The former residential home has been converted into an attractive oasis with gleaming brass accents and a sparkling white marble bar where they serve specialty coffee drinks during the day and inventive cocktails at night. The menu also skews European with seasonal fare made using fresh ingredients and a thoughtful attitude toward sourcing. From fresh breads and egg dishes at breakfast and lunch to classic French dishes like Duck Confit Cassoulet and Steak Frites at the evening meal, Elvie’s knows exactly what sort of restaurant they want to be and maintains a laser focus on their food.

Amazing food. It's right next to The Corner Market grocery store in the neighborhood This Belhaven refuge combines a sort of woodsy feel with a novel almost steampunk industrial vibe to create an eminently comfortable neighborhood hang. The bar and lounge area are great places to enjoy a craft cocktail or beer while you wait for a table to open up, which is a common occurrence at this popular eatery. Patience is rewarded with a seasonal menu of dishes inspired by Southern, French and Creole influences. Even with so many excellent choices on the menu, the No.7 Burger with candied bacon and tomato-bacon aioli is always a power move.

Just across Poplar Boulevard from its original location, Keifer's is a longtime fixture in the Belhaven neighborhood. Opened in 1980, “Jackson didn’t know what hummus was, or gyros or falafel or cottage fries,” current general manager Chip Holden explains. Keifer’s was also one of the very first restaurants in the Jackson area to offer outdoor seating. Today, the menu hasn't changed and the decor - painstakingly recreated from the original location - lives on. Get the feta cheese dressing. Dip everything in it. Repeat. Get a pint of said dressing to take home with you. You don't have to thank me.

This family-owned pie shop is located in a lovely restored Craftsman-style bungalow divided into many distinct spaces where you can find people working quietly on their laptops or sharing a flight of sweet and savory scones. They take their coffee very seriously at Urban Foxes, and that care is evident in each deliciously complex cup that they brew. Evenings feature occasional live music and trivia nights, so there’s always something going on in the Foxes’ den.

Founded in St. Augustine, Florida, Mayday Ice Cream's first location outside the sunshine state is now open at The Terrace in the Belhaven Town Center. Featuring unique standby and rotating ice cream flavors (think Coffee and Donuts, Mint Monster, and Blueberry Toast Crunch), Mayday uses the best ingredients in fun new ways and serves them up with some good old-world hospitality. Try one of their ice cream "flights" in a cup with homemade sprinkles, enjoy a handmade waffle cone, or take home your favorite flavor in a pint from their to-go refrigerator. Fondren Neighborhood Food & Entertainment

"Located at the corner of Lakeland Drive and Old Canton Road in Jackson, Fondren Public is serving up delicious bar bites to go along with your beer or cocktail while you hang out on their backyard patio. Complete with picnic tables, cornhole, and a giant Jenga game outside and board games shuffleboard inside, Fondren Public makes for the perfect hangout spot any night of the week. Not only is Fondren Public a great place to grab a quick bite to eat, but it also makes for a lively and fun gathering place after a long workweek. On most Friday nights, the back porch and picnic tables are full of young adults mingling and hanging out to kick off the weekend. The back patio walls are donned with big-screen TVs, so Fondren Public also makes a great spot to watch any big games that might be on your radar. While you sip on something cold, be sure to order a snack or two off the menu. Fondren Public’s menu also includes salads and a few “big bite” options that take your ordinary bar and snack food to a whole new level. Boiled peanuts are a popular choice, and these are no ordinary gas station boiled peanuts. They’re coated in cumin and cayenne pepper, giving them a little kick of sweet heat. For something a little more than just peanuts, try the yard bird, composed of fried chicken bites on a stick topped with spicy horseradish mayo, or the public chips – french fries covered in pulled pork, melted white cheddar, scallions, and chopped okra. If you’re looking for something a little more to eat than just a snack or side item, several options of sliders available, such as beef, chicken, pulled pork, and even vegetarian, or sink your teeth into a fried chicken and waffle taco or a BLT." ~Paige McKay

There’s no arguing that Brent’s Drugs is one of Jackson’s most visibly iconic spots. Thanks to movies like “The Help” and magazines such as Vogue and Southern Living, audiences all over the country have become acquainted with the diner’s signature turquoise décor and retro neon signs. It’s challenging to find an article or feature written about Brent’s Drugs that doesn’t include the word “nostalgia” somewhere in the headline. Brent’s style makes it an excellent fit for the historic Fondren District. It’s a fun and comfortable place to take out-of-town visitors. But underneath all the chrome and color, Brent’s Drugs is a neighborhood diner. And that brings with it a whole different set of expectations. The coffee should be good, but not fancy. Everything should come with a biscuit on the side and the option to add cheese.

The BBQ, sweet joy... what's there NOT to love here?! You are seriously missing out if you leave Jackson without trying this place..... I'm not kidding. And then you'll kick yourself for not allowing enough time in your trip to come back. The “Pint” in the name of this affable barbecue bar refers to the taproom in the back which features one of the most impressive selection of craft beers in Jackson. The bar is lined with trophies from competitive BBQ events, and that’s where the “Pig” comes in. The pitmasters moved from contests to serving their delectable smoked meats to the public instead of just lucky judges. From super smoky cola-glazed ribs to peppery beef brisket to their popular smoked bologna, Pig & Pint is a winner. Try their cheesy Bacon Melt sandwich with pork belly, brisket and collard greens for a taste of Mississippi on toast.

This place is run by some of the nicest and most humble people you will ever meet. They treat my family like their own. Here you will find some of the best Mediterranean food in Jackson, and a grocery next door. My favorites are the lamb chops, sweet Lebanese tea, and meat dolmas; but, everything there is really absolutely amazing! Flavorful selections, competitive prices and a real neighborhood feel make Aladdin the kind of spot that invites regular travels, and that’s just as owner/chef Yoseph Ali intended. Opened on Lakeland Drive in November 2004, Aladdin’s Mediterranean cuisine wraps in flavors from Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Lebanon, a bit of Greece. With the sprawling University of Mississippi Medical Center just across Lakeland Drive and St. Dominic Hospital right down the street, Aladdin is in a sweet spot to reach health-conscious professionals as well as diners in Fondren and beyond with a taste for adventure.

All over the world, coffeehouses fuel creativity, conversation, and community. At Fondren’s The Bean, Kristy Buchanan and her team of baristas are filling a gap with not only locally-roasted coffee but small plates, pastries, cocktails, craft beer, courtyard concerts, and more. With the support of several business leaders in the neighborhood, Kristy took over the Sneaky Beans space in 2019 and the community they had already cultivated and amplified it, turning it into the ultimate neighborhood gathering spot that's inclusive of all ages and interests. Storytime on Tuesdays at 9 am has become a standby for local moms, taking place in their courtyard when the weather's nice. Another regularly scheduled outdoor event is Songwriter Night, where local artists perform originals under the stars. Trivia Night is also huge for The Bean, with large crowds packing the indoor and outdoor spaces.

Everything at Green Ghost Tacos is made from scratch. “Not a can in the place,” Torres said, hydrating his own peppers and boiling Roma tomatoes to create fresh-made salsa. How authentic is the food? “All of the recipes are my mom’s,” Torres explained. “You guys get everything I ate as a child!” Call it Mexican food, but that’s like calling all food in the U.S. “American.” “There are three distinct regions in Mexico and all of them have different ways of cooking. I wanted to make dishes like they make them back in Mexico — like we make at my house.” Menu standouts are the pastor (marinated pork) burritos and tortas. Many of Torres’ customers love their slow roasted pork shoulder and chile rellenos. And, on subsequent visits, we’ve seen more than one order of loaded steak fries up for carry out. (Visit Jackson)

Many of Torres’ customers love their slow roasted pork shoulder and chile rellenos. And, on subsequent visits, we’ve seen more than one order of loaded steak fries up for carry out. (Visit Jackson)

Bakery, Restaurant, Dessert, and coffee. Everything is made in house here. The only way you can go wrong at this place is by not buying a loaf of bread to take home with you. A Jackson stalwart, Broad Street has been baking artisan breads and pastries since 1998. They also serve full menus for all three daily meals with egg dishes and varieties of avocado toast at breakfast, burgers and sandwiches for lunch and rich pasta dishes for the evening repast. A beverage menu of coffee drinks plus beer and wine completes the dining experience.

Upscale food and environment. They have a great little cocktail lounge, nice wine selection, and craft cocktails. Can't go wrong with this place. "The massive and modern dining room at BRAVO! is a popular gathering spot for friends and families looking to celebrate special occasions over platters of delicious Italian food. The open kitchen offers a view of the bustle of the staff as they prepare wood-fired pizzas, steaks and pasta plus some excellent seafood dishes as well. The wine list has been recognized as one of the finest in the city."

Great place for kids and adults! It's a trendy environment, New York style pizza, paninis, and pasta. They have an ice cream bar for the kids and give them WikiStix at the table to make something to hang on thr walls. There's a lounge off to the side with great beer selections and a full bar. Don't be surprised if the manager comes and checks on your table. Top notch service. Intriguing pizza combinations and a commitment to their New York-style make this 15-year-old Jackson restaurant a local treasure. Relocating to The District at Eastover in 2021, the red-checkered tablecloths, welcoming patio, and dough made from scratch daily made a move, too. Sal & Mookie’s also brought along their family-friendly ice cream scoop shop that opens to an outside pickup window for after-school treats on good weather days.

Fire and food come together at this modern Mediterranean eatery where the kitchen revolves around an Italian pizza oven and an eight-spit rotisserie where meats turn and cook slowly to lock in flavors. These meats are the centerpiece of the menu which features salads, wraps and rice bowls made using shawarma-style chicken or beef, souvlaki pork or lamb or falafel for a vegetarian option. The rest of the menu is like a tour of the Mediterranean with pizzas, Middle Eastern mezze small plates and Greek-inspired side dishes.

Crazy Cat Eat Up started out as just a bakery, but soon customers began clamoring for them to expand into a full-service restaurant offering lunch throughout the week and dinner on Thursday through Saturday night. Serving elegantly plated inventive dishes that range from salads to sandwiches to seafood, Crazy Cat focuses on seasonal food presented in an unfussy Southern ambiance, like dining in your favorite grandma’s tearoom. (Providing she was a very good cook, of course.) True to their baking heritage, the desserts at Crazy Cat are insanely delicious.

La Cour also features live music – depending on the local musician, might be guitar or jazz saxophone or someone tickling the ivories at Jackson’s only piano bar. Locals praise the kind and attentive wait staff, delicious brunch menu, outdoor seating area, and the overall atmosphere, citing its “great vibe.” Brunch and lunch diners can enjoy a casual atmosphere, but at dinnertime, La Cour requests business casual dress. Reservations via OpenTable are encouraged. The private dining room is an excellent venue for birthdays, small reunions, or meetings. (Visit Jackson)

Awesome restaurant, try their Friday seafood bisque or their Red Beans and Rice. I even hear their spicy pimento cheese is pretty darn tasty. Their tamales are also on point. "One of Jackson’s premier live entertainment venues for blues, jazz and roots music, Hal & Mal’s is known as a family-friendly destination for diners seeking soulful comfort food served in an unfussy environment. The restaurant is particularly acclaimed for their soups and for hosting a weekly “Blue Monday” party with the Central Mississippi Blues Society. For generations, the Crechale family has operated one of Jackson’s go-to spots for steak and seafood, and the current family members have been intelligent enough not to mess with a good thing. The jukebox still plays hits from years gone by, the broiled flounder is still deboned with a flourish tableside, and the onion rings are still impossible to stop eating until the basket is empty. All entrees include a crisp garden salad with Crechale’s iconic Greek-inspired Comeback dressing plus rolls and a huge potato, so you shouldn’t leave hungry.

The historic building occupied by The Iron Horse Grill was originally constructed as a smokehouse early in the 20th century. This probably explains why the edifice has burned down twice over the years and definitely inspires the restaurant’s menu of charcoal-grilled meats, seafood, fajitas and burgers. In addition to all that smoky goodness, The Iron Horse Grill also hosts live music performances featuring regional acts playing on the stage in their lounge area. The music can get pretty smokin’, too!

Beatty Street Grocery is a must stop in Jackson for a great burger and seasoned fries. The food is good, the decor is rough, the staff taking orders is minimally friendly to strangers but personable with regulars. The burgers are big, a bit juicy, flavorful, on a white bun - no healthy wheat buns here! The lemon-pepper seasoned fries are fantastic! A few tips for first time visitors - 1) Order at the counter with menus overhead on various sign boards. 2) Wait for your name to be called to pick up your meal at the same spot that you ordered. 3) After you've picked up your meal, then take the ticket to the register check-out at the front of the store to pay. 4) pickup plasticware, napkins, condiments, etc. at the table next to the check-out counter. 5) find a place to sit at any of the community tables and enjoy!
